Move to CDS to continue importing or exporting
HMRC has asked businesses to switch to the new customs IT platform CDS. HMRC contacted businesses about the changes. The letters and emails include information about moving to the UK's single customs platform, the Customs Declaration Service, and the steps businesses must take to continue trading. They also point businesses to online resources. HMRC urges businesses to move to the Customs Declaration Service whether they make their own declarations or use an intermediary. New Reference Documents for Customs (Additional Duty) (Russia and Belarus) Regulations 2022
There are new additional duties which apply on certain goods originating from Russia and Belarus. Inspect the Reference Documents detailing the affected goods. This follows legislation to increase the number of Russian and Belarusian goods subject to additional duties. The legal reference is the The Customs (Additional Duty) (Russia and Belarus) Regulations 2022. Access page
Duty-free trade between the United States and the United Kingdom
Following the resolution of the S232 tariff dispute between the United States and the United Kingdom earlier this year, UK steel and aluminium exporters can now export tariff-free to the United States for the first time since 2018, the country's largest trading partner. Tariff reductions make UK imports cheaper for US consumers and businesses, and vice versa. Tariff reductions benefit, in particular, UK steel makers and US producers of Levi's jeans and Harley-Davidson motorcycles. The United Kingdom has suspended previously imposed additional duties on these products.
