Imports of some sensitive goods or imports of certain goods coming from specific countries may be prohibited or restricted.

Overall, the main types of products that usually face import restrictions are:
agricultural products,
medicinal products,
chemicals,
iron and steel products,
cultural assets,
textile products and clothing,
weapons,
counterfeit or pirated goods,
indecent articles/publications/video recordings,
endangered species,
waste,
some live animals and products containing animal substances,
plants and products containing vegetable substances.
For the UK, for example,there are special rules and you may need to get licences or certificates if you are importing any of the following:

plants and plant products
high risk food
veterinary medicines
human medicine
controlled drugs
tissues and cells for human application
waste
products containing F gas
precursor chemicals
hazardous chemicals
nuclear material
guns, knives, swords and other weapons
weapons and goods that could be used for torture or capital punishment
