Dear Colleague,
Welcome to a Sneak Peek into the 18th Edition of The Customs Watch EU & UK – A Must-Read PDF Edition!
In this edition of The Customs Watch EU & UK, we examine the proposed UK-US trade deal. I have written an opinion piece in Special Report I and we look at details. Download the legal text.
We also report on the EU's strategic response to ongoing U.S. tariffs. In a second opinion piece (Special Report II) I argue that this is the correct response!
Finally, many asked me what I thought of the UK-India Trade deal. In Special Report III I argue that this is an opportunity the EU (!) should not miss! 😊
In the CBAM spotlight, the Commission has stressed that preparations for the definite period are need to be stepped up. In our CBAM section we look at what’s in store for 2026, how to calculate CO2 emission CBAM certificates and how the third party verify system will work. If you are interested in CBAM, we also hold fresh CBAM training over the next weeks that you can join. We also updated our blog on CBAM called “The Three Pillars of CBAM success”. Also, HMRC has released a presentation on CBAM – download it in this edition of The Customs Watch EU&UK.
A legal win for the EU: the Arbitration Tribunal ruled that the UK breached the TCA with its unilateral sandeel fishing ban. But the EU-UK Summit is set for next week – will it yield progress and a reset in relations? See the Brexit & Reset section for the ruling—and the risks.
Elsewhere, classification moves forward with new the publication of a consolidated list of Classification Regulations, aligning them with the 2025 Combined Nomenclature, simplifying the classification process for businesses and ensuring uniformity across Member States. You can download the list in this edition of the Customs Watch EU&UK.
On NI: The EU confirmed Northern Ireland will be subject to any retaliatory tariffs imposed in response to U.S. Section 232 measures, despite the Windsor Framework. The UK released a toolkit and SPIMM guidance to help businesses streamline GB–NI goods movements and comply with Windsor Framework rules. We look at details.
Finally, we look at practical customs management:
Customs compliance isn’t just about ticking boxes — it’s a powerful profit lever that helps reclaim duties, leverage trade agreements, and avoid costly mistakes. With the right strategy, businesses can turn compliance into a money-maker, and we have details
Tracking the right customs KPIs — like classification accuracy, FTA utilisation, and border-to-release time — directly impacts profit, risk, and speed. One recent audit uncovered millions in avoidable duty leakage, proving that what you measure can make or break your bottom line.
