Dear Valued Reader,

Welcome to the sixth edition of The Customs Watch USA.

Suppose we are to trust President Trump’s announcements on Truth Social on Thursday last week.

In that case, 25% tariffs against Canada, Mexico, and 10% additional tariffs against China will enter into force tomorrow (On 2 March the President Duty-free de minimis treatment under 19 U.S.C. 1321 is available from both countries). I have recorded a video to look at the various tariff announcements and updated our expert blog to read.

To keep track on what’s going on, please review the following three Special Reports in this edition of the Customs Watch USA:

  • Special Report I is a log or timeline of key trade developments, ensuring businesses stay informed on tariff changes and regulatory shifts.

  • Special Report II is a report on the U.S. government’s decision to impose 25% tariffs on EU goods escalated trade tensions and impacted key industries and global supply chains.

  • Special Report III explains the distinction between confirmed and pending U.S. tariff measures, essential for businesses navigating evolving trade policies.

In the meantime, last week, the president took action on timber and copper imports, issued executive orders, and targeted “digital taxes.” We look at this in this edition of The Customs Watch USA.

Meanwhile, we have a new Trade Representative! We look at this appointment in Special Report IV!

The USTR is seeking public input on potential restrictions targeting China’s maritime, logistics, and shipbuilding sectors, signalling a further expansion of trade measures against China.

What else should you pay attention to?

We wish you a great day.
