UK SPS Veterinary Border Control Posts (BCPs): Where to? How? What?

Understand your requirements to check in with UK Border Control Posts (BCPs)for imports of SPS goods from April 2024 for EU foods, feeds, live animals, animal products, plants and plant products.

From April 2023, certain EU foods may be selected for control at a Border Inspection Post (BCP). But beware: Only approved UK border control post (BCP) can check these goods.

For now, we know of the posts, airports and locations for the checks of the animals, animal products or high-risk food and feed of non-animal origin in your consignment.

Most consignments of animals, animal products and products of non-animal origin from non-EU countries must come through a border control post (BCP), previously known as a border inspection post (BIP). To date, EU imports of animals, animal products or high-risk food and feed of non-animal origin do NOT need to stop at BCPs. This changes in April 2024.

In the future, EU traders will be required to

• tell the BCP about your consignment in advance – if you don’t, you may be charged an additional fee or your checks could take longer

• make sure the BCP you’re using is designated to check your shipment’s commodity
